The More Loving One

fuckyeahstars:

Looking up at the stars, I know quite well
That, for all they care, I can go to hell,
But on earth indifference is the least
We have to dread from man or beast.

How should we like it were stars to burn
With a passion for us we could not return?
If equal affection cannot be,
Let the more loving one be me.

Admirer as I think I am
Of stars that do not give a damn,
I cannot, now I see them, say
I missed one terribly all day.

Were all stars to disappear or die,
I should learn to look at an empty sky
And feel its total darkness sublime,
Though this might take me a little time.

- W.H. Auden

You know what ELSE I found out?

Adorable little baby Toby (Toby Froud, the son of one of the Labyrinth’s makers) grew up to be this guy:

Who’s probably around 25 now. His current career, according to his bio, has been “working as a stilt-walker and dancing bear with a troupe that performed throughout England this summer….Toby has become a master stilt walker.”

A master stilt-walker, people.

Also, is dad is Brian Froud - aside from working on Labyrinth, Daddy Froud also illustrated the Smooshed Fairy Book (actual title: “Lady Cottington’s Pressed Fairy Book”, but that’s what I called it when I was a kid). You’ve probably seen it at one point:

(fairy: “Ack!”)

Speaking of sons, Jim Henson’s son Brian was the voice & one of the puppeteers of the fugly Hoggle:

That’s his character with little 15-year-old Jennifer Connelly, who I always thought was a huge brat in Labyrinth, but I sorta liked her anyway. TRIVIA!

I’m not all that surprised that puppeteers & their offspring tend to stick to creative fields. Once you go puppet, you never go back. CGI be damned!

Anyone who likes the Labyrinth should definitely watch this!

I’m watching the Making of Labyrinth right now and it is continually blowing my mind! The way they did all these puppets and effects is insane!

And you know what I realized while watching this? The guy who played Ludo, this big sweet furry thing that I loved when I was little:

….is Ron Mueck, the sculptor! He’s the same guy who nowadays makes these weird giant lifelike statues:

That’s him working on one in the pic above.

He was a good-lookin’ dude when he was younger, too! What an awesome career he’s had, huh?

I closed my eyes and tried to peer into the future. On my left, I saw days upon days of lipstick and ticking clocks, dirty looks and quiet whisperings, and burning secrets that just won’t ever die away. And on my right, what could I picture? The blue sky, the desert earth, stretching out into the eerie infinity. A beautiful never-ending nothing.

I ALWAYS FORGET HE’S IN ANNIE HALL

Duane: Can I confess something? I tell you this as an artist,I think you’ll understand. Sometimes when I’m driving… on the road at night… I see two headlights coming toward me. Fast. I have this sudden impulse to turn the wheel quickly, head-on into the oncoming car. I can anticipate the explosion. The sound of shattering glass. The… flames rising out of the flowing gasoline. Alvy Singer: Right. Well, I have to - I have to go now, Duane, because I, I’m due back on the planet Earth.
Sometimes I suspect he may secretly a murderer. Seriously. Did you know he was on the boat when Natalie Wood died? Creepy.
